Anyone familiar with internet horror knows how overdone plain grey humanoid monsters are, but I think a basic design like that works well for SCP-096. Its jaw and grossly out of proportion
arms are just enough to differentiate it from all the other grey humanoids out there. When you dumb it down, SCP-096 is a monster that kills you if you see its face; it’s a relatively simple concept that’s still unique enough to let the imagination to run wild. So I think the simple monster design is fine. Also, the fact that 096 eats 096-1 is heavily implied with a [DATA EXPUNGED]
... what a cool writing choice!!! I think 096 is a very unique and special guy, even if it is plain-looking.
IMO, the best SCPs work as standalone articles and don’t need much else behind them. SCP-096 has a few official external documents tied to it, but it's fine on its own. Document #096-1 is fucking stupid lmao.. I find the vehement /x/ writing style endearing, but the fact that it's okay to look at drawings of SCP-096 isn't interesting enough to warrant anything more than a brief mention in the actual article. The events detailed in Incident 096-1-A, however, actually add to the horror of SCP-096. This quote pretty much sums it up:
Dr. Dan: No, no. I apologize. [Sighs] SCRAMBLE was really an ingenious idea. However, it was a failure because we did not fully know how SCP-096 worked. You see, as the chip inside SCRAMBLE picked up SCP-096’s facial features and began scrambling them, there was a split-second of uninterrupted light flow to the retina. Computers are fast, but not as fast as light. So, there was a split-second image of SCP-096’s direct face sent to the brain. It wasn’t even consciously received, but apparently it was enough to trigger the hostile reaction in SCP-096.So, Incident 096-1-A uses what was previously established about SCP-096 to help the reader realize something absolutely horrifying. That's how you add onto an SCP article with external documents. Like, this is fucking awesome!!!!!
Interviewer: So, with this report of the photograph…
Dr. Dan: That’s the most disturbing part of this whole incident. You know when the former SCP-096-1 went on his mountain trip? 199█. That’s ██ years of that photo hanging there before he saw SCP-096. Since the brain doesn’t need to be aware that it is viewing SCP-096’s face to trigger the reaction, there can be ticking time bombs hidden literally anywhere in the world. How many photographs are out there containing SCP-096, just going unnoticed, waiting for a careful eye? As I said before, I want this thing terminated. Now.
Here's a funny video of some guy finding SCP-096 in Containment Breach. I watched it all the time when I was a kid. He also found it again.
